Now this video did a couple things to me. First, I can’t be more thankful that Mike and I drank some extremely strong coffee before leaving for class. That movie would have put me to sleep if I didn’t have a triple dose of caffeine pumping through my system. That was one boring movie. I think I successfully made it through the film by telling myself that something was going to happen. At the same time, I found the film very interesting. I know I’m contradicting myself. But as boring as the movie was, I have never seen anything quite like it before. I have never had any type of experience with such a simplistic style of living. I can’t imagine living without the internet, television, my cell phone, my Ipod… so many inventions that have made their way into everyday life. Impressed by a television? I don’t think so. Not unless it’s a massive 1080P LCD. If I mentioned that to the people in the film… I don’t think they would have a clue as to what I was talking about.

I found the film boring because it just dragged on for so long. What had interested me about it was that the small community was completely dependent on camel to survive. I’m not entirely sure where they got food from. It looked like the just ate soup and rice, but I’m not sure if they had other sources of food. I was kind of bothered by the limited knowledge I have on their lifestyle. I wish I knew more about that type of life and that culture before watching the movie. More information would have made the film more enjoyable for me. Still I was impressed by what little people can live off of. I know that I couldn’t do it. And for that matter, I don’t want to think about it. How disgusting it would be to not be able to shower in hot water everyday. I think I’m going to go shower right now.

Yes I saw what everyone else in the class saw at the “Hateful Things” exhibit after watching the movie. I’m sure while watching this movie, many students and professors alike had many different feelings pumping through their veins. The two feelings I just couldn’t help but shake while watching the movie and observing the racist memorabilia are best described in two phrases. 1. I don’t give a shit… and 2. Get over it. I’m sorry but as much as I try to sympathize with the Africa American culture for being brought down by whites and persecuted for so many years, being forced into slavery and made fun of, even beaten, killed, lynched for all to see… The idea itself disgusts me. I can’t help but think of the pain and oppression of my own race which I am directly linked, the Greeks. But what bothers me the most personally about this is how ignored other races and cultures have been persecuted, not to mention the self loathing act of blacks in America that build upon the hatred given to them by whites. Using the same words in their everyday lingo, to sell music using the “N” word freely to address eachother. That doesn’t make sense to me.

First off, you white people should be ashamed of yourselves. How different the white perspective of racism towards blacks would be if they were the ones brought over and enslaved, made fun of and hated for decades and having to carry that stereotype for generations to come. You racist pieces of shit that can’t see past color disgust me to the fullest. I am somewhat of a hypocrite in everything I am writing in this blog. I am a racist myself. I do loath a certain group of people. I am completely put off by racists. How odd that sounds. A person that is racists towards racists. It confuses me too. I don’t understand hate. I am a pacifist. Hate simply doesn’t make any sense to me. Why hate when it is so much easier to love? So when I watch a movie about a man and his conquest to share with the world the idea of hate brought upon by years of racist memorabilia and I see these items, I don’t understand. I can see why someone would collect these items and the purpose that they would try convey. And although I believe it is necessary to learn from the past, I can’t help but try ignore these items and the message they carry with them. I have seen this all before. I agree and disagree with so much, but the one thing is don’t think I will ever fully understand, is racism.
